There is something so special about documenting families right where life is unfolding—at home, in the in-between moments, surrounded by memories already being made. Tori and Dylan’s backyard family photoshoot in Charlotte, North Carolina was the perfect example of that kind of magic.

This session was all about slowing down and celebrating a beautiful season of life. Tori is expecting a baby girl, and together with Dylan and their sweet little boy Bennett, they wanted photos that felt natural, nostalgic, and full of heart. No stiff poses, no pressure—just real moments.

We spent the afternoon capturing the simple joys of family life. Baby Bennett toddled around the yard, picking flowers while mom and dad soaked it all in. A cozy family picnic turned into giggles, cuddles, and those fleeting looks that parents share when they realize how fast time is moving. These are the moments that don’t always feel big while you’re living them—but mean everything years later.

One of my favorite parts of the session was incorporating the anticipation of their baby girl’s arrival. Tori gently hung tiny baby clothes along a clothesline in the backyard, a quiet and meaningful way to honor the new life joining their family soon. It was such a beautiful visual—soft fabrics swaying in the breeze, full of hope and excitement for what’s next.

Backyard family photoshoots like this are some of my absolute favorites as a Charlotte family photographer. They allow kids to be themselves, parents to relax, and stories to unfold organically. Your home doesn’t need to be “perfect”—it just needs to be yours. That’s where the real memories live.
